Sharing Movies with a Remote Class

In some cases, you may need to play a DVD for your class that is learning remotely. The best way to do this is with Google Meet and VLC.

You may need a USB DVD player if your computer is not equipped with one.

Why use Google Meet instead of Zoom?

Google meets plays back screen shares with significantly better video quality than Zoom. Additionally, it will pass through the movie's audio to your participants without needed adjustments. Additional steps will have to be taken for this function to work in Zoom.

How to Play DVDs on your Computer

Note: VLC Media player will be required to follow these steps. It can be download to your computer Here.

  • Insert the DVD into your DVD drive
  • Open VLC media player
  • Go to Media > Open Disk (VLC will automatically detect your DVD)
  • Press Play

Your DVD will now be playing on your computer.

Sharing your DVD in Google Meet

In your Google Meet, present your screen. Google Meet will automatically ask to share your computer audio. This will allow the other participants in the meet to hear the movie directly, instead of thorough your microphone.

Select the VLC application window to share, and make your video fullscreen.
