How to log into classes as an Authenticated User

Logging into your Zoom meetings as an Authenticated User with your sjprephawks email account will attach your Prep Identity to your Zoom account. This helps make sure that meeting attendees are more identifiable, and will make it impossible to change or modify personal information.

Logging in with your sjprephawks account only ever has to be done once on each device. Once you have performed this process on one device, it may not prompt you to do this again.

This tutorial has been written directed at Chromebook Users using the Zoom Extension for Google Chrome. Users on other computer systems, such as a Windows PC or an Apple Mac, or those using the Zoom Desktop App or Browser Portal may experience slightly different looking screens, however, the process is mostly the same.

Common Troubleshooting Issues

Before we begin this article, here are some common issues you may run into when trying to follow this guide. Follow the links and instructions in this section if you experience these problems when attempting to log in.

  • When clicking a Zoom link, it does not ask me to log in, and it tries to log in with my old name.
    • This will only happen if the room you are trying to log into is not yet protected, and your Chromebook is still remembering your old name. You will need to remove your Zoom extension and re-open Chrome
    • Uninstalling an extension:
      • Open Chrome.
      • Select More and then More Tools and then Extensions.
      • Next to the extension, you want to remove, select Remove.
      • To confirm, select Remove.
      • Restart Chrome
  • When attempting to join a meeting, it is asking me to verify my email address.
    • In some cases, Zoom may ask you to verify your email before you can use your newly linked account. This does not happen in all cases.
    • If you are prompted with this message, open your email and click the link that Zoom sent you to verify your email address.
    • It can take more than a few minutes for this verification to happen. You may need to wait up to 5 minutes before you are able to join your meeting.

Step 1: Open the link for your Zoom Meeting

Click on the link that was sent to you for the meeting you would like to join. You can also type, or copy/paste this link into your internet browser window.

Step 2: Click "Sign In to Join" when asked

Meetings that have been set to only allow authenticated users will be blocked to anyone trying to sing in using the conventional method, by putting in a screen name. You will be confronted by a pop-up window indicating that you will need to sign in to enter this meeting.

Step 3: When asked to Sign-In, Select "Single-Sign-On" (SSO)

You need to select the "Single-Sign-On" (SSO) option to sign in to your meeting. This option is located on the right of the window. Do not attempt to sign in with your account normally by tying in your email. Do not attempt to sign in with Google.

Step 4: Type In the SJPrepHawks URL (sjprephawks-org)

In order to join a verified SJPrep Zoom Meeting, you will need to type in the school's Zoom URL: sjprephawks-org.  Make sure that you are correctly typing this URL. It is sj prep hawks (hyphen) org.

Step 5: Sign in to your sjprephawks account

For this step, you will be prompted to sign in to your sjprephawks Google account. This will be similar to the way you log into any service using your Google account. Follow the steps on the screen as you are asked.

Step 6: Join a Meeting with Your Credentials

Select the Join a Meeting tab, input your meeting ID, and your sjprephawks email address in the fields below.

Step 7: Enter the Meeting Password

The meeting password should be given to you by the meeting host (your teacher). Input the password into the box below.

Step 8: Enter Your Meeting Waiting Room

At this point, you will join your meeting. You may or may not be prompted to join with Audio or Video. This will depend on the settings your meeting host has determined. After joining, you will enter the meeting waiting room as usual.
