If a Chromebook is not automatically connecting to WiFi, some steps may need to be taken in order to resolve the issue. This is a result of the way the School's networks are configured, and the habit of Chromebooks, specifically new Chromebooks to not always automatically take to the recommended settings.

What is the password for the Chromebook WiFi?

There is no password for the Chromebook WiFi.

The sjpchromebook network and the Chromebooks are specially configured. When a Prep-owned Chromebook is detected on school property, it automatically joins the Chromebook network. It is set up this way to make sure that only Chromebooks are able to connect. Because it is an automatic handoff, no password for this network exists. IT does not possess a password, and a password that does not exist cannot be handed out.

Why is my Chromebook not automatically connecting to the Chromebook WiFi?

There could be a few different reasons

Sometimes, newly-issued Chromebooks have not existed on the network in a while. They may need to be "re-enrolled" in order to automatically connect. Other times, a routine glitch or error in the device's wireless policy may simply unjoin it from the network, requiring a device reset.

What steps should I take if I am having WiFi trouble with my Chromebook?

1. Hold down ctrl+alt+shift+r

This will bring up a screen asking if you would like to reset, or "powerwash" your device. Please continue agreeing to this process, until your device restarts. Your device may restart more than once.

2. Allow the Chromebook to go through the reset process

Make sure to click "continue", and agree to any terms of service that may appear as your device goes through this process of resetting and power washing. Eventually, you should reach a screen where it is asking to connect to a Wi-Fi network.

3. Select and connect to the "SJPGuest" network with the password "prepprep"

Connect to the SJPGuest network. You will be asked for a password, and it is "prepprep". A pop-up may appear asking you to accept terms of service. Please accept these terms of service to continue.

4. Allow updates to process and continue

This step may take some time as the device connects to the internet, and downloads any necessary software updates to the Chromebook. Eventually, you will reach a screen asking who the Chromebook is for before you sign in.

5. Press ctrl+alt+e to continue with Enterprise Enrollment

When you are prompted to select who the Chromebook is for, please press ctrl+alt+e to start the Enterprise Enrollment steps. These will make sure that the device is properly enrolled with the policy needed to automatically join the Chromebook WiFi.

6. Login using your @sjprephawks.org email account

You can use your email address @sjprephawks.org to log into the device. This will tell the Enterprise Enrollment that you are going to use this device as a St. Joseph's Prep Student.

7. Log in again if asked to, with your student account.

Following successful enrollment, you may be asked to log in a second time. Please log in again using your school email.

Your device will have been successfully reset, enrolled, and connected to the correct wireless network.

What do I do if these steps were unsuccessful, or if I was unable to complete them as explained in these instructions?

If you were unable to resolve your network issues using these steps, please schedule an appointment to meet with a member of the IT/Computer Services department for further evaluation.
